Asian countries plays a significant role in the aquaculture industry and contributes over 90% of aquaculture production of the world. With the advancement of technologies and technical expertise, aquaculture has become one of the major activities to the Asian economy, in particular the shrimp, tilapia and ornamental fish industry. During the past few decades, emergence of cage aquaculture as a promising activity in many parts of Asia. Over 80 marine and 20 freshwater species are grown in cages. Current and future research and development for the technical, socio-economic well-being of the Asian cage aquaculture industry are critically significant in the region’s aquaculture industry.

The Asian Fisheries Society (AFS), a non-profit Scientific Society, is promoting networking and co-operation in fisheries and aquaculture sector for higher production, research and development in Asia since 1984. The 6th International Symposium on Cage Aquaculture in Asia (CAA6), a triennial event of the AFS, will be organized by Department of Marine Science, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University in collaboration with National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and Prince of Songkla University, Surat Thani Campus, Thailand during 12-15 October 2018. The theme of CAA6 is “Green Culture Sustainable Production”. About 300 participants are expected to attend the Conference. Speakers from various Asian countries will share their experiences and lessons-learned in fisheries and both cage and typical aquaculture.
